Monday, Monday….
.NET
Scott Hanselman talks about tools he uses to compare binary .NET assemblies. Great to figure out what changed without doing a source diff.
Chris Sells is collecting the best online resources for WPF. If you have a good one, go see him.

Sam Gentile vents against the lack of Vista power-user edition. he had to go a tweak his new machine endlessly to display extensions, avoid all the modal pop-ups, copy files(?!), etc…
Sam has also put out New and Notable 157. Interesting links on Agile and also RESTful design.
Scott Bellware has a good piece on Marie Antoinette’s take to the software maintenance mantra of “read the code“. Code should be easy to read and communicate the intent. I find myself struggling with that sentiment versus the actual pressure of delivering a deeply embedded system in a short time frame. Sometimes, I long leave embedded behind and luxuriate in the plush .NET environment of VS 2005.
Design
Larry O’Brien talks about the lessons history holds that could be applied toward the looming parallel processing crisis.
The prolific Scott has an entry on Test-Driven Architecture. I’m thinking it is complimentary with Roy Osherove’s Testable Object Oriented Programming.
Testing
Scott Bellware talks about how the organization of their unit tests has changed. They used to have 2 projects: fast tests (aka unit tests) and slow tests (aka integration tests). No more!

Back in the saddle after a long week-end.

Scott Bellware has a great piece about Mark Miller and his commitment to customers. I’m a big fan of Mark Miller’s satire, and, like Scott, while not a customer, have always admired Developer Express, even though I use ReSharper, as it fits my style better.
Scott also wades into the Multiple vs. Wide Monitor debate. After this, I might just campaign for a 30″ wide monitor…
Scott Hanselman (it’s the all Scott edition tonight!) points out that UPSes are turning out to be a necessity with Windows Vista. I had a UPS for my TiVo, but the dang thing beeps louder than an alarm when power goes out…nothing like getting woken up at 2AM by the dang UPS…do they make them without the dang beeper?
Rob has a great entry on Attracting Software Developers that fit your company. Boy, if we could only manage to have ANY software developers to attract in Beaufort…Anybody want to move South to the coast?

If you will be designing a framework, Brad Abrams has collected a few papers by Steven Clark about framework usability.

Adnan Masood has a great post on five easy steps to Log4Net. As a Log4Net occasional user, this little cheat sheet comes in handy! (Via The Daily Grind)

To aggregate or not to aggregate…that is the question on a day like this!

Looks like Sam Gentile will give a session about the internals of the CLR at DevTeach. He also shows you what you need to build the Rotor V2 CLR.
Sam is feeling constrained about what he can put on the CodeBetter blog. To alleviate this, he has started a new blog about non-professional pursuits. I admire Sam immensely. His writing (unlike mine) is always impeccable and informative.
Design
Reaching back in the archives, I found this interesting post about including security in Use Case Modeling.
Testing
Another oldie at Michael’s (or is it Micahel’s) blog about what to put in the resolution field of your bug tracking software. You are using bug tracking software aren’t you?

Microsoft is giving away free Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition. Simply attend a couple of Visual Basic virtual labs and submit an evaluation (via The Daily Grind)
Larry O’Brien reports that InfoWorld, the print magazine is no more. It will be strictly online from now on. I believe Eric Sink predicted the demise of the developer magazine a year ago. While InfoWorld is not exactly a developer magazine, it’s close enough! I’m convinced Eric has a crystal ball stashed somewhere in his office!
If you’re into electronic gadgets and rely on Circuit City’s sales staff(?!) their latest cost cutting move might not sit well with you.
Design
Adam Goucher has a post about Prince2, a different process model with built in testing of everything.
While I’m not personally into Web Services, Cory Foy has an interesting article about autogenerating Tests for Web Services using Visual Studio.
Brad Abrams posted a great video of Krzysztof Cwalina (of Framework Design Guidelines fame). The video is about great framework design. It’s 3 hours(!) but I believe it would be worthwhile, as the FDG should be mandatory reading if you’re designing a framework.

10 signs your software project is doomed. Item #4 strikes a cord. (via The Daily Grind).
Hacknot has reached his boiling point with the Dynamic Language oopla going on. An article in IEEE’s software magazine sent him over the edge into a 8000 word essay. Well worth a read :-) You might also want to download the Hacknot Book; a free collection of Hacknot essays
Development
Brian Button has a nice article on How to come up with a good list of test when doing TDD.
Chris Morris points out to a less that useful discussion on architecture his project had.
